Strategy games are made to test your decision making ability, your patience, and your endurance. You will need skillful thinking and planning to be victorious. There are two types of strategy games, turn based strategy and real time strategy. The term Strategy games takes its origin from board games, making them interactive and more complex.
In Turn based strategy games, each player will make their move, each reaction depending on the decision you make. These are usually wargames, and games related to such. In Real time strategy games you do not take turns. This term pertains mostly to computer games. Every action you perform is simultaneous, hence the term real-time. You do not have to wait for another player to finish their turn.
An attempt to converge Turn Based and Real Time strategy games has been made, including such games as Fallout and Homeworld. The four goals of a strategy game are: eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. The term for this is 4X. The Civilization games are probably the most well known of this type. Whether you're a real-time strategist looking to build bases or produce units or a turn-based strategist wanting to beat your competitor, then these types of games are more than perfect for you.
